Schedule 26 Statutory Supervisor Course Set

By March 31, 2026, all Statutory Supervisors in Western Australia are required to complete specific Work Health and Safety (WHS) units of competency to meet mandatory eligibility criteria.

Our Statutory Supervisor Course is designed for mining professionals seeking to fulfill these requirements and excel as industry-leading Statutory Supervisors.

Key Information for Advancing Your Mining Career:

Understanding Your Requirements

Part 10.7A of the W.A. Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022 outlines statutory positions in mining operations. Mine operators must appoint qualified individuals to these positions, each with specific functions, obligations, and required levels of knowledge, experience, and formal qualifications. Some positions also require statutory certificates.

What Are Statutory Positions?

Under WHS law, mine operators must ensure that qualified individuals are appointed to the statutory positions listed in Schedule 26 of the W.A. WHS Mines Regulations. Our Statutory Supervisor Course meets the WHS risk management training requirements for the following positions:

  • Underground Supervisor (Non-Coal)
  • Underground Supervisor (Coal)
  • Restricted Quarry Manager
  • Statutory Supervisor
  • Mine Air Quality Officer
  • Noise Officer
  • Electrical Supervisor

For a complete list of approved WHS risk management units for statutory positions, please refer to the official guidelines.

Transition from Section 44 to Schedule 26

Schedule 26 replaces Section 44, which outlined requirements under the now-superseded Mines Safety and Inspection Act 1994. The current regulations are detailed in the W.A. Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022.

Important Deadlines

Transitional arrangements allow a competent person to be appointed to a statutory supervisor position until March 20, 2026. After this date, appointees must meet the eligibility criteria specified for their statutory position.

Steps to Compliance

Step 1: Complete Required Training

Enroll in the risk management Units of Competency as specified by the W.A. Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) for your statutory position. Our comprehensive Schedule 26 Statutory Supervisor Course (2 days) provides the necessary training.

Step 2: Schedule the DMIRS Legislation Examination

After completing the required Units of Competency, book the DMIRS examination through the WHS Mines Statutory Positions Portal (MSPP). This exam assesses your ability to navigate and interpret the W.A. WHS (Mines) Regulations 2022 and the WHS Act 2020.
