HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation course teaches the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines. This course is developed for existing workers in the industry who may require CPR training as recommended by the ARC.

Students who successfully complete this nationally recognised training will be awarded the statement of attainment for:
  • HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Target audience:

Those who are required to provide an emergency first aid response in a workplace. As well:-
  • RACGP members, this course can be either a Category 2 accredited activity or form part of a Category 1 accredited activity
  • ACRRM members, for there QI&CPD 10 BLS points Basic Life Support

Initial Course duration:

Mixed Mode: Completion of on-line pre-course study with 2 hours practical training, starting at 8.45am till approx. 11:00am

Recertification Requirements:

It is recommended this unit be renewed every 12 months in line with industry standards.
CPR training is open to everyone. There are no prerequisites or previous experience required. However there is Pre-Course study to be complete prior the practical day, a link to enrol and complete pre-course is email when booking in!
It is a requirement of this course that you are physically capable of performing uninterrupted CPR for at least 2 minutes on a CPR manikin placed on the floor.

HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation course teaches the skills and knowledge;

  • Recognise an emergency situation
  • Identify, assess and minimise immediate hazards to health and safety of self and others
  • Assess the casualty and recognise the need for CPR
  • Seek assistance from emergency response services
  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation in accordance with ARC guidelines
  • Display respectful behaviour towards casualty
  • Operate automated external defibrillator (AED) according to manufacturer’s instructions
  • Accurately convey incident details to emergency response services
  • Report details of incident to workplace supervisor as appropriate
  • Maintain confidentiality of records and information in line with statutory and/or organisational policies

By followed DRSABCD in line with ARC guidelines, including:

  • performed at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor
  • performed at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR (5 cycles both compressions and ventilations) on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface
  • responded appropriately in the event of regurgitation or vomiting
  • managed the unconscious breathing casualty
  • followed single rescue procedure, including the demonstration of a rotation of operators with minimal interruptions to compressions
  • followed the prompts of an automated external defibrillator (AED)

And responded to at least one simulated first aid scenario contextualised to the candidate’s workplace/community setting, including:

  • demonstrated safe manual handling techniques
  • provided an accurate verbal or written report of the incident
